For a taste of the medieval or a few Celtic tunes there will be no better place to be one weekend each August than Harbour Park in Goderich. The Earth, Air, Fire & Water: Celtic Roots Festival features the best of Irish, Scottish and other Celtic traditions. Celtic story telling, shadow puppets, a boffer pit, step dancing, highland and Irish dancing, instrumental workshops, harpists and pipers are just a few of the activities at this family-oriented event. And all of that takes place before you get to the craft tables. Warren Robinson and his wife Eleanor of Goderich, conceived the idea of a Celtic festival to create the "dream festival." "We wanted a festival which focused on the Celtic aspect instead of offering a little of everything. It was something we wanted since Huron County is heavily settled with Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English," Mr. Robinson says. The three-day event features more than 25 hours of main stage musical performances by musicians from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Canada and the U.S. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are also four workshop areas and a childrenŐs area. The quality crafts on display will include medieval forging, wood carving and stained glass, says Mr. Robinson. Mr. Robinson says the event is for the entire family. "We have tried to make the festival affordable for a family ($35 for the three days, for the whole family) and to provide a safe area for the children. The park is completely fenced and no cars are allowed." For more information regarding the festival or Celtic College contact Warren Robinson at (519) 524-8221 or www.celticfestival.on.ca
